Project Overview

In collaboration with L&T Energy Hydrocarbon and in association with Maharashtra Forest Department, a Bird Attracting High Density Forest was created at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. This initiative of native plantations significantly contribute to environmental conservation by creating dense, fast-growing forests using native species.

Miyawaki forests also enhance biodiversity, providing habitats for various species and increasing ecosystem resilience. They also help mitigate urban heat islands by providing shade and cooling through evapotranspiration. These plantations offer a sustainable solution for restoring natural habitats and combating climate change.

Our Process

Miyawaki plantation is done as part of our efforts to conserve native flora and fauna. By planting various species of fruit and nectar yielding plants, we create natural habitats for birds, ensuring food availability throughout the year. Through awareness campaigns, we emphasize the ecological significance of multispecies native plants in forest ecosystems and highlight the importance of key stone species for conservation efforts. Additionally, we raise awareness about the role of native plants and forest plantations in combating climate change and preventing species extinction. Our initiative also focuses on creating a gene pool of native plants to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience of ecosystems.

Identify native species

Involves a thorough understanding of the local environment and biodiversity by assessing the site’s soil, climate, and existing vegetation.

Site Survey

Crucial for the success of a Miyawaki plantation, assessment of soil type, pH, nutrient levels, understanding local climate, hydrology and identification of existing vegetation.

Native plant collection

Native plants are scarce and difficult to source in large quantities. A critical step in the Miyawaki method, ensuring the success and sustainability of the plantation.

Dense plantation

By planting a variety of native species close together, results in forests that are 30 times denser and grow 10 times faster than traditional methods.
