Why the Miyawaki method?

Miyawaki plantation is done as part of our efforts to conserve native flora and fauna. By planting various species of fruit and nectar yielding plants, we create natural habitats for birds, ensuring food availability throughout the year. Through awareness campaigns, we emphasize the ecological significance of multispecies native plants in forest ecosystems and highlight the importance of key stone species for conservation efforts. Additionally, we raise awareness about the role of native plants and forest plantations in combating climate change and preventing species extinction. Our initiative also focuses on creating a gene pool of native plants to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience of ecosystems.

Our Process

Nature Forever Society collaborated with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, for Planting a forest at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. We reconnected community members with native tree species from the neighboring mountain.

Identify native species

Survey local forest fragments and identify potential natural tree species that are best suited to the conditions.

Site Survey

Identify the main canopy and tree layer species and select companion species based on their compatibility with the key species.

Native plant collection

Plant the seedlings randomly and at high density, 20,000 to 30,000 per hectare with stakes for support.

Dense plantation

An initiative by Nature Forever Societyfor the conservation and promotion of native floral diversity of the country.
